There are a lot of reasons for why someone might decide to hate Russians. Some groups are simply born with an innate ethnic loathing of fairer-skinned people. Others are from countries who have geopolitical beef with Russia. Finally, the most dangerous group are those who have been infected with parasitical ideologies over the course of their lives. The key ideology that inspires the most ardent Russia loathing is, of course, messianic Liberalism. The Sanhedrin of the Liberal faith have declared Russia to be anti-Liberal, and so, all good Liberals are called on to resist Russia and to do her harm.
I was reading yesterday something from a guy who totally flew below my radar, Petr Hampl.
It's not about ideology, but about signalling you belong - or at least long to belong - to the Beautiful People. The Beautiful People are international, and owe allegiance more to each other than the country they were born into. This trickles down to the aspirationals who are about anyone middle and lower-middle class:
"First, the power elite is large in number. If we are talking about the richest half a percent, that means more than five million people in Europe and the US. That’s a group big enough to have its own culture, its own taste in music, its own way of dressing, its own diet, and its own lifestyle. This is a huge difference from the situation back in the 1980s, when the elites were national and local, and naturally much smaller. A smaller elite, even if it cultivates its separateness, nevertheless adopts values and basic ideas about life from the subordinate classes. This has disappeared. Today’s New York corporate board members are no closer to Montana construction workers than they are to Somali herders."

What do you think could or should they have done about the graffiti? If you spray anything over such a graffiti, better not get caught. In almost any European state you will be prosecuted. So the most any one of these Russians can do is come back in the middle of the night when no witnesses are around and spray over the graffiti.

I think that the "hate Russia" agenda is vastly overblown: it is just simple greed, at least in most of the "west"; that the propaganda describes russians as "orcs" is a consequence of that greed, and very few people are taken in by "cossack with horses drinking from the fountains of st. Peter's Square" stuff.
I reckon that however there is hatred against "Russia" among the nostalgics of the lithuanian-ruthenian-polish empire, because there is resentment that Catherine II "stole" from their ancestors the power and sinecures of their lower-nobility and gentry ancestors. Ultimately that is greed to, but not because they want what "the russians" have, but because they want back the power and wealth that they imagine that "the russians" stole from their ancestors.
