Not all your readers are poor artists. Some of them are simply indebted to the system : mortgage, nursery fees, taxes, electricity and heating costs (in the UK electricity and natural gas prices went up 3 fold after the start of the not-war), and tithes : 80% of our household income is constrained. No car ; only once to the restaurant this year ; one trip outside of London this year. Finances can be tight even for the upper middle class.
You're very talented, for some reason your writing reminds me of Tim Dorsey, author of the cult classic "Florida Road Kill", maybe your wit. I noticed a couple other commenters gently chastising you for soliciting for paid subs, they may have a point. I sincerely believe you are going places, I thought the bit on the Corbett Report was a big deal, major kudos, but I don't know if you're ready to hide behind a paywall, not saying you're not worth it I obviously think you are, but imo you need as much as exposure as you can get right now. I know times are hard, you might consider finding yourself a cougar, sugar mama to take some of the pressure off
If you stopped asking for money and focused on your writing, I bet you would get more subscribers. just have the button there. That list I just read was not worth reading, it was a waste of my time. I only read it at all because I thought it might be a prelude to an article. You know I am a subscriber and I wish those of us who already believe your articles are worth the money could be spared these appeals.

Most writers on substack wag the tantalizing bits before the paywall goes up. That model seems to work for them. I upgraded to paid because I knew I'd get some good analysis that you can't get elsewhere with some funny commentary/sarcasm thrown in. People only subscribe because they can tell this is what they get if they upgrade to paid.
You need to balance good writing behind a paywall with advertising to prospective paid readers.
This is some of the most original and insightful writing on the net - sort of a next generation samizdat-meets-hunter-s-thompson. Without the drugs, of course.

If you were really worth the money I already pay, you’d contact someone at something somewhere ministry and get a double stack (13 or more shots) Tokarev pistol (7.65 x 25 rocks and beats NIJ LIII armor) and a true Russian patriot would get this done.

I wrote a post on one of your older articles, and was maybe a bit too ... well, "uncivilized"(?) in my commentary (but I found it to be one of the best essays I've read in many a year!-it wasn't critical of you, I assure you).... If I violated any "rules of decorum", I apologize to you and anyone else who may have found me a bit "abrasive" in my language. I'll do my best to keep it more fitting for the rest of my fellow Stalkers. (however-if it was NOT too crude, I have more where that came from, I assure you! ;-) ).
