Want to echo Rileys point that all Ukraine has to do to win is survive. That's also what Strelkov was saying from the beginning. When the original SNO plan for a quick regime change in Kiev flopped the only option Russia had to win was to actually force an unconditional military surrender and that hasn't changed.
However it's obvious that won't happen, the requirements for it would entail changes to the kleptocratic system that is the basis of the wealth and power of the current "Russian" elite. That is achieving a real battle field victory on Russias end would amount to suicide for the people running Russia so it a priori an option that isn't on the table to begin with. Kiev, Odessa and Kharkov don't look so pretty when the price is your Italian villas, London Penthouses, Swiss bank accounts and invitations to Davos.
Now since all Ukraine has to do is not get over run, and there is no risk of that than Ukrainian victory is assured at this point. We are going to have generations of Ukrainians reared on stories of how their fathers and uncles and who ever resisted the Moskali hordes like the Spartans and Thermopoli. The details of the matter, like that Russia never had hordes, never had any numerical advantage on the field, was never properly supplied, that there was never actually any determined invasion won't matter for the Ukrainians or anyone in the West. What will be pertinent is this new founding myth of Ukraine where their plucky band of SS LARPing brothers held the line for EVROPA against the Mongols. They will cast themselves as the new winged hussars that saved the West with the Russians being in the roles of asiatic bad guys.
The only people who will remember the actual details of what happened for real in the not war will be very, very pissed off and bitter veterans on the Russian side like the ones Riley mentioned. And that knowledge will create a generation of justifiably furious Russian Patriots with very bad will to both their own government and Ukrainians. So yeah another war is assured imo and it will potentially be even worse.
Ukraine was always disposable. As are the Slavic people on both sides. What has been masterminded here is a blood rift that has undone over 1,000 years of fraternity. I love the work both of you do by giving emphasis and hard cold truth of the Russian side of this conflict. Perhaps you expect us to get these black pills elsewhere but one noticeable critique is your emphasis on Russia does mean some level of myopia in the way you communicate and present your arguments hence the accusations by the uninitiated that you're pro-West. But you guys know this is bigger than Russia v the West. The true power players are above nation states and the puppets that represents them. Oligarchs! They want us to go back to semi feudal times with a serfdom. So do you look at the West now and think it is winning either? Thank you both. In this world it seems you can trust in no-one's authority, however persuasive and comforting their words. I think the only force that truly binds us is suffering. It doesn't demand complicity of belief, but only compassion. And an ounce of compassion - even guarded or fleeting - is worth any amount of enthusiastic cognitive engagement. I listen to your voices as much as to your words.
We know that no country is run by or for it's ethnic inhabitants. It is not reasonable to expect their policies to benefit the natives, and observably they don't. Consequently we should ask how these policies benefit the rulers. By an amazing coincidence those rulers are all members of the McSchlomo clan, and their high priests direct their actions. Its not all about the money. They want Heavenly Jerusalem by mid-century, so the local goyim have been set to kill each other to clear the territory.

Thr embarrassment of the Russian government by the conflict suggests they were forced into it. It would appear that the ethnic oligarchs owning Russia are subservient to the ethnic oligarchs owning and running America and Ukraine, and dearly wish to be patted on the head by them, rather than kicked up the backside, so they have accepted the task of keeping the war running in low gear for as long as possible.
