Regarding the state's grudging use of nationalist energy in the war effort, that's something to be wary of. It wouldn't be the first time the state tried to kill two birds with one stone by sending off troublesome nationalists to die in a meat grinder. Franco did essentially that to the Falangists when he sent them off to support Barbarossa in the Blue Division.

Franco secured power after the Nationalist victory in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), during which they received support from Nazi Germany. Franco chose to remain neutral in World War II but sympathised with the Axis powers. After lobbying by the Foreign Minister Ramón Serrano Suñer and senior figures within the Spanish Army, Franco agreed that Spanish people would be permitted to enlist privately in the German Army and agreed to provide tacit support. An infantry division was raised from Falangist and Army cadres and was sent for training in Germany. The unit fought on the Eastern Front and notably participated in the siege of Leningrad, but was withdrawn from the Front after Allied pressure in October 1943 and was returned to Spain soon afterwards. Several thousand non-returners were incorporated into the 121st Infantry Division, the short-lived Blue Legion, and eventually into the Waffen-SS. (WIKI)

Doesn't sound like Franco coerced Phalangists into the "meat-grinder."

Great interview, full of insights into contemporary Russian politics. Exactly what we're lacking in the West. The plight of Russian patriots seems very similar to the US. We have no visible leader and no rising political party which could give birth to such. The difference (imo) is that Trump is a faithless phony and Putin is not.

The Orthodox political situation sounds as weak as the Roman Catholic one over here, tho maybe w/o the pedophilia embarrassment. My friend, a trad Catholic, likes Putin but considers Orthodoxy as schismatic, needing to convert. As a Gnostic, that just seems backward. More Western arrogance.
