There's a kind of mechanical and legalistic cruelty to the Russian ruling establishment that really shows they didn't want this war. They are more international and liberal and border respecting then the actual West. In a sense, they always have been (Soviets!)

Still, it's heartening to see these failures, because it means things can only go up: either righteous punishment for spiritual failure, or momentous success from learned pain.

"Another point worth making: patriotic groups are calling for an end to the policing operation and for Russia to go on a full war footing."

There were/are critical things that need(ed) to happen before going to a war footing.

This is one if them -- possibly the single most important one.

Southfront has been heavily pro-Russia and has covered the Syrian conflict for years. But it doesn't shy away from telling things as they are when the going gets tough.

They are repeating what you wrote in this post, more or less, summarizing the situation in the most favourable way reality currently allows (if readers are able to put up with the "Kyiv" spelling, of course):

"Summing up developments of the last days, Kyiv’s forces already achieved a victory on operational scale and captured the strategic initiative in the conflict amid the indecisive posture and ‘acts of free will’ of the Russian leadership. Moreover, their advance continues and the Russian military has not stabilized the frontline so far.

The rapid retreat of units of the Russian Armed Forces in the Izum sector demonstrated a deep systemic crisis of the Russian military-political command. The silence of the military-political leadership of Russia in the face of the deep crisis in the East of Ukraine may lead to the loss of confidence in the leadership among at least a part of the citizens.

If the Kremlin does not take important and radical measures to reform the existing command system and purge dangerous disrupters within it, then a military defeat (at least in some scale) of Russia will become a likely outcome of the military campaign in the East of Ukraine.

Currently, the Russian Armed Forces in the southern part of Kharkiv Region and in the north of Donbass is balancing on the edge of defeat, which is prevented by unprecedented heroism of Russian military personnel."

A few comments:

1. Russia has encouraged residents of disputed territories to evac since the start of the smo

2. They have evacuated whoever they could, & have been receiving & accommodating those who have self-evacuated

3. Bad things happen in war. Territory is gained. Territory is lost. Territory is regained.

Like all the bloggers out there, they knew what was coming & evacuated Russian troops in advance, for a reason. They left national guard & local militias to defend & retreat.

The Russian mod has issued a statement. I believe the 1st sentence. Everything after that is blah, blah, blah used when they aren't telling you crap because they aren't going to give away their game plan.

This was a tactical retreat. They have drawn 30-50,000 Uke troops, as many as 20% foreign, supposedly with US & UK leading the way, stretched into a deep, narrow cauldron (~20 miles across from map I've seen) largely of exposed steppe, which will need to be supplied. A logistical nightmare.

As I wrote before, hundreds of fighter planes & copters were amassed near the border a couple weeks ago. Others have seen reports of troops massing in the past couple weeks.

Russia can supply directly from Russia. The US/Nato have to cross all of Ukraine after crossing other countries.

Give. It. Time.

One last thing: the title here goes a long way to explaining why you are no longer welcome in Russia or Belarus.

That implies that they even asked about my blog. They didn't.

The title (& the content) is a "tell." I'm sure you have unknowingly given other "tells" in your life.

I just saw someone post something very similar to this title & content on an analyst's blog. One of the 1st replies that post got was the suggestion that person was working for Ukraine.

Think about it.

You're biting the hand that feeds you.

Russia gave you an escape from near certain death.

What you wrote could be interpreted as trying to turn people against Russia.

Or you could be what we call a "loose cannon.". Either way, you would be considered a risk.

This is war. Shit happens. Russia saw the attack coming. Made strategy to turn yesterday's "defeat" into tomorrow's victory.

It takes time to arrange massive military mobilization -- a full week, per expert who used to plan them. The residents were warned. As many were evacuated as could be.

You're trash-talking Russia for "abandoning" people who were not abandoned.

There are risks with evac. There are risks with staying. Residents had a long time before this past week to decide to decamp to Russia for the duration. Some picked 1 risk; some the other. Those who chose to stay til the last minute still had time to escape.

And yes, some overstayed, for whatever reason. Pray for them. This is war. Innocents will die, but Russia has bent over backwards to minimize innocent loss.

The American way would have been to flatten the cities. How many did we kill in Iraq? Literally millions.

I agree. My strong suspicion is that the Russians will wipe out all those Kiev NATO forces moving forward soon.

I suspect the gloves are off now.

ZNPP is now fully shut down. Per Intel Slava, the holdouts for peace are now fully on board.

Here in the US, per General MacGregor, "limited, tactical nukes" are now being seriously discussed. Until now, only the fully insane, most rabid neocons were discussing them. Praying those retards don't launch us into smoldering nuclear, "We gotta burn this country to the ground to save it" wasteland. 😟

And, courtesy of 2 hypersonic missiles to Karkiv, Ukraine is now without electricity, trains are stopping & Karkin is also losing water in places.

The gloves are off. Kiev will no longer party while the south & east burn.

I think it does start messing with your brain. I don’t feel connected to anything now. America is dead. It’s now a chaotic mess of people who hate me and my country and all my ancestors. I’m almost 60 and everything I grew up with is a lie now. I can’t tell u how many times I heard people bleating “I may not agree with what u say but I’ll fight to the death for your right to say it” LOL. What bullshht. Now I’m not even allowed to see things on the internet. All I get are BS RightSpeak search results, everything real is deleted or buried.

I’ve got testosterone. The problem is the beams are snapping in my entire world. In Jackson, MS they have mud coming out of their faucets now and all the stupid white people are saying it’s because of “Democrat policies” lol. They refuse to notice they live in basically South Africa now with an 80% black population (probably 95%, they lie about everything) and literally a Black Nationalist mayor whose dad, the mayor before him!, changed their names to Lumumba, the Congo Black Nationalist lol. It’s actually kind of funny. That’s just the latest idiocy, today. There’ll be more laughs tomorrow. No, I don’t think testosterone is the problem.

Am I the only one who sees a direct connection between NATO continually ramping up against Russia and the massive swatting of American dissidents like Trump, Steve Bannon, Marjorie Taylor Green, Alex Jones, Roger Stone, etc? I see it as the Evil West coming after all autonomous free people everywhere in a unified plan. It is all the same fight. It appears to me that even as some European governments have gone wobbly in this attack, NATO itself and the US government have remained resolved to enslave the entire world.

I guess Ukraine is a toy? Putin is draining the West, and not on his territory. I hope that’s true. I can’t believe there’s not a plan to devastate the Kiev forces when they have moved forward. Russia has been pretty consistent taking Crimea and eastern Ukraine, you believe they’re just going to fold now?

I think you have me confused with someone else.

But yes, the situation is bad.

Expand full comment

«the situation is bad»

Then situation has been bad for 8 years for the people of Donbas, but it has been improving. As to the tactical situation of their RF allied "special military operation" I don't see much of a problem: the ukrainian forces are even more exhausted than the LDR/DNR/RF forces, and so far have not been trying to push back simply because it would be nearly suicidal and pretty much entirely pointless (conquering worthless territory without destroying forces).

But the political context has changed, and the ukrainian government must have forced a very expensive pretty much useless small scale attack towards Izyum, because "home front morale" in the UK and EU is crumbling:

https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2022/09/caught-in-a-cycle-of-despair-and-exploitation/

«Truss’s conversion to action on energy prices is not motivated by a sudden concern for poverty or the needs of ordinary people. I learnt of it on Sunday night, before her U turn was briefed, from senior Foreign Office (FCDO) sources. Government polling has indicated a substantial fall in public support for NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, due to unsustainable energy prices at home.»

In Germany too:

https://exxpress-at.translate.goog/klartext-von-stelzer-erster-oevp-landeshauptmann-kritisch-zu-eu-sanktionen/?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc

«Resistance to the EU sanctions against Russia decided in Brussels is growing not only in Austria, but also in broad sections of the population in Germany. In it they call for all sanctions against Russia to be stopped and negotiations to end the war against Ukraine to begin, reports focus.de. In this letter of protest, the concerned craftsmen write: “We as craftsmen know from many conversations with our customers that the vast majority is not willing to sacrifice their hard-earned standard of living for Ukraine. It's not our war either!”»

To support the USA boycott of the cheapest and largest european energy supplier "good news" must be generated before the winter to persuade the UK/EU voters that their troubles will end soon when the ukranian blitzkrieg takes will end with the occupation of Moscow and the storming of the Kremlin and then newly appointed Muscovvy President Navalny will hand over Putin-The-Vile to Supreme Generalissimo _elensky on the newly renamed "Bandera Square" (previous name: "Red Square") :-).
