Dammit where is the subscribe button? I am already subscribed but cannot figure out how to up the ante. Patreon does not tell me where the money goes and it is not through PayPal who does tell me.
Ok, addendum. For those who wish to increase the amount dedicated to Rolo, click on "Rolo" which takes you to a Substack home page, click the Subscribe button and that opens a view of your plan. click on the amount and enter your generous contribution to our most prized observer of things Russian and international who is not afraid to point out pernicious influences.
I've seen comments that are designed to hurt, downright nasty that I would ban outright, but then there are ppl who maintain multiple identities with their sockpuppets who spew faux conversations.
It would be nice if a 'newspaper' included a survey of what the mainstream media is slopping. I read only niche media and I have, literally, no idea what the latest propaganda line is.
I just answered the appeal and got a paid subscription ! I hope it helps you continue the good work. I only just discovered this substack, and I'm glad I did. There are so many interesting articles and essays here on topics I have long been interested in. Oh - and I downloaded the free book - thank you!
Your description of the Substackers is spot on, especially regarding the milquetoast opinions. I try to shake people up in the literary corners every now and then. But don't get my hopes up. They genuinely think we live in normal times.
“Newspaper” format is a great idea. I’d also add a writer who focuses on religion/metaphysics/spiritual stuff. All the facts and such is too overwhelming without some otherworldly escape from it all lol
Just returned to the computer to read this post, Rolo. Yes, as I indicated in other comments today, I had already decided to become a paid subscriber, which will happen before July 1. The reason, as also stated, is that you help me, with your expertise in dissecting Russian politics, see U.S. politics more clearly. I could already see the same maneuvers and strategy used once I began reading what's happening in Russia, but I couldn't understand the mechanics or the "why" in many instances. Understanding the mechanics and the "why" simply help predict what will happen. My aim is essentially to have the current situations impact my life to the least extent as I can.
I follow 92 different writers on Substack, and don't pay for any of them. That is not a brag, I simply cannot afford to pay for even a fraction of those I read regularly. Many of these writers give a teaser of an article that in many cases I want to read, but I stop at the paywall and move on. I sincerely hope you reach your goal and are able to continue providing your work to the stalkers like me that read your articles daily. Unfortunately, life has become increasingly difficult, and I am having my own difficulties getting my clients to act or find value in hiring me. If my pool of resources was deeper, I'd certainly pay for your content. Thanks for the enlightening perspective you share.
Substack is interesting, and I liken it to what happened with streaming TV and cable-cutting. I cut cable in 2016, and do not pay for any streaming services. However, I could easily surpass the cost of monthly cable in streaming fees if I started signing up for all of the different options on the likes of Apple TV. With writers like Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibi moving from the mainstream onto alternative outlets and putting everything behind a paywall, this medium has become the streaming equivalent for writers. I do not fault anyone for trying to make a living, but paying for several, or potentially dozens of writers is not in the cards.

I've seen it done that only paid up members can comment.
Worth a try?
This blog is having an impact - I've seen what is posted here reflected elsewhere.
People are watching Rolo.
Rolo has been doing that lately

The real God's-honest fundraiser has never been tried!.. Yet? 😇
Rolo is king.

I'm currently on $35 a month.

Good luck with whatever it is you decide to do.
Yes that is why I believe writers need to bundle their services.
Not that it matters, but I actually cut the cord in 2006. Ol-timers must be kicking in.
Would you answer an honest question?
Why use substack to essentially publish a webpage/blog?
You got ya foot in the door - you can just do your own thing now...
Didn't know that about Dugin. https://unherd.com/2023/06/how-aleksandr-dugin-influences-the-west/
It seems to me that troublemakers like me should pay extra. That is, if you want to encourage us.
I think it was Marko who brought me to you and to Riley.
if both of you can bring him back to your "syndicate", i'll consider your " ransom".
You got that right. I gave up expecting money. Truth hurts people.
A wise man once told me, "Knowledge is pain."
john carter article?
No. A lowly shop rat prole, like myself, about 20 years ago.
