The right is happiest when it is optimistic. The left is happiest when they are trying to stop the Armageddon du jour. So while the left is waving its pride or Ukrainian flag while eating bugs so that we all don't die from climate change, the right is convinced some major victory is just around the corner so no need to worry.

An incomplete list:

no need to worry about the left's victories because gun owners are going to team up with the military and police to take back the country.

No need to worry because Q says to trust the plan.

No need to worry about the election being stolen because Trump is going to cross the Rubicon.

No need to worry about Russia because the minute that ground freezes Russia is going to launch a blitzkrieg to kill the remaining dozen or so Ukrainian soldiers that they haven't already killed.

Damn that hits hard. Well said.

Maybe because the left is capable of mobilizing and getting things done whereas the right continually fails. All they have is fantasy.

A corollary is that the right presents as strong, tough guys. Might be accurate when it comes to physique but how strong can you be when you always lose? The right often mocks the left for "whining." Meanwhile, the left presents itself as the underdog despite having almost all the power.

Again, all Americans understand is sports and Hitler. If you're not spouting a "WE'RE WINNING" or "(insert bad guys here) are getting DESTROYED" narrative, you must be one of them. No real room for rational pragmatism.

To most western types, the only successful military action is shock & awe, where locations are leveled in a matter of hours, and mass casualties are the cost of doing business.

500,000 would be like what? 12or13 hundred casualties a day? Ukraine did launch some pretty bloody offensives which is why I still think between 75-100k dead and wounded beyond further use Ukrainians is not unlikely but how can you seriously claim 500k when most the fighting in the war has been positional exchanges of artillery, drones dropping grenades on people and small platoons and companies fighting over blown up heaps of concrete and trenches? Like there just hasnt been much mass attacking going on at all with a few exceptions like Mariupol and the Ukrainians offensives in Kherson and Krasny Liman. Im not counting Kharkov because casualties were light on both sides due to the Russians just not being there.

The scale of the fighting just isnt intense enough for there to be 500,000 on the both sides put together and including the civilians. This is so stupid I suspect FSB must be translating Big Serges posts into Russian and giving them to Putin as fresh intel and how everything is going just as planned.

Also funny and kind of related:

Yeah he is a cringe 70s style boomer commie but none the less Russel Bentley is actually in Donetsk and knows people at the front personally. Seeing him go off about what morons scott ritter and McGregor are is funny and more confirmation that the 5D crowd are indeed dunces.

The UK had approx similar population as Ukraine back in 1914 - 40 million. The UK lost 880,000 men in WW1. Yes thats eight hundred and eighty thousand! 6% of adult male population and they still won.

Given the accounts we have heard from the Ukrainian sources like desperate videos by battalions refusing to fight saying most of their comrades were wiped out. Other accounts of bodies lying on the battlefield, i think an accurate conservative estimate is 140,000 dead 400,000 injured. Injured anything from a broken wrist to being blinded or having your leg blown off.

The question really is how much Ukraine has in the tank how many can they lose and still carry on, maybe 2-3 million who knows. They can never admit the figures because people will refuse to fight

I am keeping half an eye on the 5D people. I have seen no mention of the mass casualty event at the Russian barracks. Rather, there seems, most recently, to be a peculiar focus on the ground temperature in Ukraine. As soon as the ground freezes - then! - that changes everything - the dynamic tips to "short order" Russian victory. (Apparently it has not yet frozen - stay tuned!)

By way of saying I am confused (and always of course striving for what I quaintly call intellectual honesty) - yeah, I get the point "Big Serge" 5D/ha ha ... but just now running through my bookmarks I come upon a "Big Serge" substack - is this the same guy? - These seem very thoughtful, lengthy, technical discussions about a wide range of topics in military history. Should we blame twitter instead? Does it incentivise superficial point scoring.

Just for your consideration:: https://bigserge.substack.com/
