For millennia, human beings convinced each other that holy books, myths, fairy stories - and their up-market companion, metaphysics - were the way to understand the universe.

Then came the Enlightenment: roughly, from the time of Newton onwards. The essence of the Enlightenment was that understanding doesn't come from myths and holy books, it comes from observation, the formation of hypotheses, logical deductions from those hypotheses, and critical tests of those deductions, leading to better hypotheses and better understanding.

Unfortunately, for 80% of humanity including Slavsky/Skywalker, the Enlightenment might as well never have happened, so we get rubbish like this episode and the previous one.

Rolo was always a notorious apologist for holy scripture, fairy tales and religious narratives.

He was always promoting Christianity and Hebrew metaphysics on this blog. Don't worry though, I will be taking the blog in a new, Enlightened direction.

Fun fact: The "enlightenment" concept of truth - measurable truth pertaining to immutable "laws of nature" - derives from the inception of the Enlightenment, the "Meditations" of DeCartes (not from Newton, who was just the first great mathematical map-maker of Cartesian "Reality"). And truth as certainty was needed by DesCartes because in a world where the monolith Yahweh created everything, nothing less than this kind of certainty could amount to truth. Ergo, the scientific method and its quest for the "universe and atom," directly resulted from man's fabulous need to confirm the salvation of his eternal soul.

Of course, when endless mapping and tinkering with the material world led to multifarious "inventions," the materialist sorcery of modern technology came to appear as an end in itself - and at length became the tail wagging the dog of Science and Reason. But that doesn't change the fact that scientific truths and laws of nature - Cartesian truths - are fables groping for mooring in a land of outdated (Christian) fables. And prior to knocking actual 20th century thinkers who confronted this truth as best they could, consider reading some Nietzsche. Or better yet, read some Heidegger (whom Dugin is apparently a great scholar of) - one of the few serious, post-metaphysical thinkers. This short essay, "Modern Science, Metaphysics and Mathematics" is a good place to start: https://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/thought_and_writing/philosophy/Heidegger,%20Martin/Heidegger%20-%20Modern%20Science,%20Metaphysics%20&%20Mathematics.pdf

This is off-topic RS, but I wonder if you can comment on John Helmer's story and book about a long running legal case which decided that the Russian fleet operator Sovcomflot and its ethnic overlord, one Frank, are corrupt, and this sheds some light on how Putin rules?

Andrew who? I've never heard of this man! As for who is repeating who, let's not go there lol. The stuff about peasants and no ideology and all that, well, I think Rolo had a pretty good claim to that being his particular baby. But at the end of the day, there is something to be said for the fact that we're all in the moment, absorbing similar stuff, maybe even connecting with our minds around similar ideas.

I do think I heard you say that stuff about ideology before him, or maybe there's some massive hive-mind consciousness that operates in dissident spheres? Then again my post didn't say anything about ideology lol

or is it me promoting Putin as the savior of the Christian world and encouraging my readers to adopt Catholicism? lol.

Excellent! Thank you RS. A few months ago Jay Dyer had a good interview with Scott about his video on the Metaphysics of Tweed (an English rather than a Scottish invention). More will be welcome.

Have you come across the works of Peter Kingsley, particularly 'Reality' and 'In the Dark Places of Wisdom'? Very impressive work on the Pre-Socratics and Orphics and Neopythagoreans.
