After the last hostage taking I am now a happy cool kid ... Please take my money Rurik as The Stockholm syndrome beyond stalking is well worth the price. I have repented my stingy ways and put some skin the game. Thank you sir for leading to the center path...paid year subs minimum gang ... Help this brother out ...if just for the lolz that we get from it. There is a price to a tragedy being made comedy. Cheers Rurik.

Hello RS. Here's another nice article by Guyenot on Unz. Will you be talking to him again?

https://www.unz.com/article/the-constantine-hoax-and-the-forgery-of-western-history/

I'm not clear how much he accepts of ancient Rome as valid and not a retrojection from Byzantium and the Renaissance.

This is peak "merchant" mentality and isn't coherent with the rest of your discourse.

Your impatience and immaturity put you in danger of selling out as soon as there's enough money to be made.

This is my last comment here, I won't renew my sub when it's due. Too bad, you had interesting ideas, but I'm done with Mammon's whores, they're the reason we're in such dire situation.

Expand full comment

you dont know what merchant mentality is. you are from the West. by default you are more merchant than I could ever be. you should instead humble yourself to be able to listen and learn. You will miss a chance to Slav your Sovl.

but oh well! you will be missed!

meanwhile 8 more people signed up! losing you to gain +7 was worth the trade!

Actual factual info about Russia /Ukraine is all I am interested in . All the metaphysical articles leave me cold , not interested , maybe divide it into two blogs , one Russian the other for whatever spiritual crap etc. Also one consumes a lot of various sun stackers and websites, the cost of paying for all of them is just too much.

Expand full comment

Subscribing to all the good blogs would be like buying all the good albums. Unrealistically expensive.

We need some kind of cryptocurrency micropayment driven system where our web browser automatically buys a paragraph at a time. It'll distribute the funds fairly and probably make blogging more lucrative.

Expand full comment

Or just writers bundling their writing together with others so that ppl get many writers for one price . Ie a newspaper

Expand full comment

Nope. The selling point of my idea is the fine grained payment. Paying a penny a paragraph transparently from a browser crypto plugin avoids the large energy barrier associated with buying a newspaper subscription. And theres no editor to act as a gatekeeper. Good ideas get instant funding.

Expand full comment

Sorry, but I did not join up for "good writing".

I joined to learn things that I did not know; to be informed.

A couple of good articles persuaded me to contribute, but mostly I have been disappointed and will not renew.

Expand full comment

If Russia fails to win will you send me money to apologize?

Seems only fair.

Expand full comment

Sure.

I define a "win for Russia" as: a peace settlement under which Crimea, the entire north shore of the Sea of Azov, and all the territory between that coast and a line drawn roughly from Luhansk to Nova Kakhovka (including access to the Dniepr river around and to the north of Nova Kakhovka, but not necessarily including Enerhodar); plus all the territory east of a line drawn northwards from Kadivka to the (2021) Russian border; remain part of Russia.

That would mean Russia retains not just Crimea, but a land bridge to it; access to a supply of fresh water for Crimea; and most of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Not everything Russia would like, but a lot more than it had in January 2022.

Expand full comment

Why is this a win?

It’s not even all of Donbass or all of the officially recognized territories that are technically part of Russia.

Has Ukraine been denazified and demilitarized? What about the fate of the pro Russians? Will the majority of Ukraine joining NATO be a win?

Funny. I learn new things from every column Rurik writes. My principle is that if one gets value, one should pay a fair price. I have had several occasions where handymen have given me an estimate for a job, and asked for more because it took more work than they estimated. I always pay them as long as I'm convinced they're sincere. If someone goes to extra effort to make sure you get a good product, they should be compensated.

I literally see nothing with many of Rurik's perspective on my usual subscriptions. I subscribe to The Duran, Scott Ritter, Robert Barnes who all tell me Russia is on the cusp of winning the war. Then Rurik tells me Russia is corrupt, is shortchanging the military, and is incompetent in organizing military operations. Where else would I get this perspective?

Expand full comment

But is he right? Anybody can give a "new perspective". Getting a CORRECT perspective is more difficult!

If Ukraine wins the war, I'll renew my subscription.

Expand full comment

No ones going to win this war. It's a big stupid stalemated depopulation plan. Probably the borders will stay exactly as they are, and both sides spin it as best they can. Transnistria then gives up and joins Moldova as an autonomous region, and Ukraine opens back up for business as normal.

Expand full comment

Your definition of win is them taking back all of donbass.

And your win condition for Russia is not a win at all.

Either way though, if you are honest, you will end up admitting that I was right.

Expand full comment

Not all of Donbass. Donetsk city would be in Russia.

But anyway it's a win because it's much better than the situation in January 2022. The land bridge including Mariupol etc is hugely significant; with NATO control of that, the entire Black Sea would have become a NATO lake, and the vital Crimea surrounded and very vulnerable. I think that secure possession of Crimea is an existential matter for Russia.

An "agreement" to demilitarise Ukraine would not be worth the paper it is written on: the USA has a track record of breaking agreements. Territory and secure borders are real.

Expand full comment

Donetsk is being shelled. Belgorod is too. Things are worse than before. And they won’t be able to “secure” any territory unless Kiev surrenders.

When pray tell will they take Kiev?

Expand full comment

I didn't only say I value Rurik's perspective. I said I learn new things. These are facts and objectively verifiable. For example, Rurik reports that Russian-language blogs on Telegram report Russian soldiers complaining about being short on equipment, about being ill-treated in in the Donbass regions, about not being paid, and disorganized military. Either the blogs are there or they aren't. Do you hear about these type of blogs on The Duran (I still follow The Duran)?

You can tell something is going on. Do you recall the initial SMO objectives: to de-militarize Ukraine and get the neo-Nats out of government. Now, Putin is saying Russia absolutely has to have a buffer zone so Ukraine rockets can't threaten the Russian annexed lands. What happened to the original objectives?

So, what you want is a search for truth. If you use incomplete or slanted information, you'll make bad decisions.

At least you are not a woman. If you were and paid Rolo for insulting you every single article, you will understand why women are regarded to be dumb. But besides Ukraine is not going to win the war, it is impossible. NATO can't win, Russia can't win. It is modern warfare with forever wars, keeping the populace traumatized. Imo, Rolo is selling an exaggerated version of the conflict as if Russia and Putin are under a real existential threat (as Putin lies to be), and NATO really fights them and they really hate Putin and Putin really fights the West. We have no reasons to be believe this version. But Rolo has some qualities like wit you know. Without characters like this we are going to just die of boredom.

I don’t know where you got the idea that I don’t like women. Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

I even follow random women around at night (for free!) to make sure they get home safe.

I shudder to think what would happen if there weren’t civic minded gentlemen like me in society prowling the streets at night.

Vanusha, I could never die of boredom because there are just too many things I want to learn about or do. Life is much too short ...

If I want wit, I'll read P. G. Wodehouse. I come to Substack and Rumble to learn about the current state of the world. I do understand that other people might come here for different reasons. If you find what you like here, great. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to follow my example.
